Google vs Covid-19
On the 12th February 2020, Google had announced that their Google Partner Programme was to go under development, and to expect to see changes & updates to the programme mid-2020.

Today, on the 9th April, Google has notified all Google Partners that it will be delaying the launch of its new Google Partners Programme until 2021:

“We’ve decided to postpone the June 2020 launch of the new Google Partners Programme and new badge requirements until 2021.”

Due to ‘the circumstances around COVID-19’, Google have decided to postpone the new programme in aid to support all Google Partner Businesses who may be struggling due to the virus.

Google had explained that with this state of uncertainty, all Google Partners were to “focus on what matters most”. For the businesses that had taken action with regards to the announcement of Google’s Partner Programme update back in February, Google explained:

“If you’ve had a badge or specialisations on or after 1 January 2020, you’ll be able to keep your status until the 2021 launch. If you don’t yet have a badge or specialisations, you’ll still be able to earn and retain your status until the launch by meeting the current requirements.”

This will be welcome news for any business who are struggling to operate given the current situation who have other major concerns to think about.

Google can certainly not be faulted for their reaction to the Covid-19 crisis, having already banned Google Ads centred on Keywords which refer to the current epidemic. This is a vital step in helping to prevent the dissemination of false information for which some publishers have been guilty.
