As a result of the Worldwide lockdown order, social media channels like Instagram and Facebook have seen a huge spike in traffic and activity. In the last month, it was reported that Instagram Live had seen a 70% increase of users interacting with live features.
Thanks to social media platforms like Instagram, the public have been able to communicate, interact and reach out to friends & family across the World, whilst obeying the stay-at-home restrictions.
Charities in particular have been struggling badly to find new ways to raise funds in light of these restrictions; with commonly used marketing methods such as door-to-door collections and even Coffee mornings being ruled out. This has placed an increased emphasis online, somewhere most charities are very underdeveloped.
Instagram has latched onto this and has been exploring new ways to help charities during the Coronavirus pandemic resulting in this new in-app feature to help charities raise funds during an Instagram Live Steam:
Instagram (Twitter Announcement)
“Now you can create and donate to fundraisers on Instagram Live. ❤️ All money raised goes to the nonprofit.”
“Many people are facing challenges at this time, and we want to do our part to support nonprofits and communities who need it the most. Now, you can easily create a fundraiser on Live with 100% of the money raised going directly to the nonprofit of your choice.”
Charities raising funds through the new fundraising feature will unlock an Instagram exclusive “I donated!” sticker, created by @leaonatsume, a Brazilian community illustrator.
